CES Counselor
Hello! My name is Stephanie Demster and I am the School Counselor at our elementary school! My journey started at Mount Union where I earned a Bachelor's Degree and began working with children and families in North Carolina. Thirteen years later, I earned a Master of Science in Education, School Counseling from Youngstown State University and became a School Counselor. It's never too late to pursue your passion; I love my "new" career!
Services Provided
As the School Counselor, I have the privilege to work with every student in our building. I want them to think of my office as a warm, safe space where they are welcomed and heard, and to think of me as an ally who is always on their side. My goal is to provide our students with the education, attitude, and skills necessary for academic, career and social success in school and life. To do this, I teach lessons in their classroom, work with small groups of students, and work one-on-one as well. I also collaborate with parents, teachers, administrators and community organizations to support the needs of our students.
Classroom Lessons
I teach weekly or bi-weekly lessons in every classroom using the Second Step Curriculum. Lessons are developmentally appropriate and teach Skills for Learning, Emotion Management, and Problem Solving. We also focus a portion of each lesson on a calm-down strategy and mindfulness.
Small Groups
Small group support is provided to students experiencing similar concerns. Groups are composed of 4-6 students and last for 6-8 sessions. Topics may include making/keeping friends, managing strong emotions, study skills, coping with family changes, etc. Students can be referred to participate by families or faculty members.
Individual Counseling
Short-term, one-on-one support is available to all students in the elementary. Any student may request to see me, or be referred by family or a faculty member.
Collaboration
I am available to meet with families, teachers, and administrators to discuss individual student needs. I am here for all students and want to ensure that your child has a positive and productive experience this year. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns about your child.
Due to the unpredictable demands of my position, it is best to reach out and schedule a meeting with me, either in person, or over the phone. You can reach me at (330) 482-5370 x40121 or at sdemster@crestviewlocal.k12.
Warm Regards,
Stephanie Demster
