Crestview Virtual School Counseling Statement
As we carry out the school year remotely and virtually at this time, the School Counseling Department would like to make a statement about how school counseling will proceed in a virtual environment.
The first mode of communication to use to connect with a school counselor is email. Every effort will be made to respond within 24 hours to all emails Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am-3:00 pm.
School counselors will continue to work within their scope of practice. School counselors provide brief and solution-focused counseling. If a crisis arises, or a student or family needs assistance outside of 8:00 am-3:00 pm, they should contact another service provider. Service providers can be found via the Help Network of Northeast Ohio by calling 211, or by contacting a service provider under the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board.
School counselors may not respond to a request for communication immediately. School counselors might be conferencing with another student or be in a staff meeting, just as might be the case in a typical school day.
There are limits to confidentiality when operating in a virtual setting. We will do our best to protect students’ confidentiality, but students should be informed that the nature of a virtual setting has its own unique limitations when considering confidentiality.
School counselors may communicate with students and families via Google Hangouts/Meet if an email is not the most effective means of communication. A student or family can request this during working hours 8:00 am-3:00 pm using school email addresses. This would provide the opportunity for students and families to communicate with audio, video conferencing, or both. During any Google Hangouts/Meet video conferencing, the school dress code and code of conduct will be required and enforced. An example of this might be that it would not be appropriate for a student to take a photo of another student in a Google Classroom setting if video conferencing is being used.
We are here for your student during this uncertain time and welcome you to reach out with any concerns or needs you may have.
